Chinese EV Giant BYD to Start Assembling Electric Cars in Pakistan From 2026

Chinese electric vehicle (EV) giant BYD is planning to launch its first car assembled in Pakistan by July or August 2026. The company wants to meet the rising demand for electric and hybrid cars in Pakistan and nearby countries.

BYD is building a car assembly plant near Karachi. Work on this plant started in April this year. This project is a joint venture with Mega Motor Company, which is a part of Hub Power.

At first, the factory will make about 25,000 cars every year. Most of the important parts will be brought in from other countries, but some non-electric parts will be made locally in Pakistan. BYD’s main goal is to sell these cars in the local market first. If the costs stay reasonable, they may also sell some of these cars to other countries in the region.

BYD has already started selling imported electric cars in Pakistan. They delivered their first imported EVs in March this year. According to Danish Khaliq, who is BYD Pakistan’s Vice President of Sales and Strategy, the company’s sales have gone 30% above their target. This shows that people in Pakistan are very interested in switching to electric cars.

This new plant will help create jobs, transfer technology, and support Pakistan’s shift to cleaner transport. It also shows how global companies see Pakistan as a growing market for modern vehicles. With this step, BYD hopes to make electric cars more common and affordable for Pakistani drivers in the near future.
