Chinese firm announces to continue work on Dasu Dam

After the incident happened earlier this week in which 9 Chinese workers died in a bus tragedy in Upper Kohistan, and then the Chinese firm temporarily stopped their work on the Dasu hydropower project but after visiting of a Chinese investigation team where they inspected the site, on Saturday the company announced to continue their work.

The Chinese company named “China Gezhouba Group Corporation (CGGC)” was jointly working on the Dasu hydropower project, and on Wednesday morning 9 Chinese and 4 Pakistani workers met an accident or can say were killed when the shuttle bus, they were travelling in, fell into a deep canyon after a blast on board

The bus was transporting the Chinese & Pakistani employees to an under-construction tunnel site of the Dasu hydropower project in the distant Upper Kohistan district of KPK, when it hit the tragedy.

On Thursday, Information & Broadcasting Minister- Fawad Chaudhry was quoted as saying that, The Foreign Office at first termed the incident as “an accident”, but later traces of explosives had been found at the site of the incident, indicating it as “terrorist attack”

After this, the company declared on Saturday it was canceling its previous order of halting the employment contract, claiming that high officials had denied their decision. According to the most recent statement, the CGGC will continue to work together on the project.

The deputy commission of Upper Kohistan district Arif Khan Yousafzai stated that the Chinese diplomat & other officials agreed to proceed with the work on the project. The Chinese ambassador replied that China would expand all possible collaboration to Pakistan.

While Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid verified that a 15-member Chinese group was engaged in the current investigation into the Dasu bus catastrophe. He also added that he had talked with his Chinese equivalent about the current investigations. The group will be visiting the site of the incident with the additional secretary & officials of security institutions.

“The investigation into the bus incident is under way, while the wounded persons are being provided the best treatment, he added. “The culprits involved in Lahore incident have been arrested, so those behind the Dasu bus incident will also be exposed,” the minister further said.
