A sudden cloudburst at Babusar Top has caused severe flash floods, sweeping away more than 15 vehicles carrying tourists in Gilgit-Baltistan. The powerful floodwaters were triggered by heavy rain that hit the region, badly affecting the Chilas area.
Rescue teams have so far recovered five bodies from the flood-hit area and managed to save four people alive. However, several tourists are still missing, and rescue workers are continuing their search despite the tough conditions.
According to Gilgit-Baltistan government spokesperson Faizullah Faraq, rescue work had to stop during the night because of darkness and dangerous conditions, but teams started working again as soon as daylight returned.
Thanks to the quick response of rescue workers and help from local residents, more than 200 tourists who were stuck due to the floods have already been rescued safely.
Many locals came forward to help, providing shelter and food to the affected people. Over 100 stranded tourists have been given a safe place to stay in houses in Thak Babusar village while the situation is being managed.
Authorities are warning people to stay away from flood-hit areas and to follow weather updates closely as heavy rain can continue to cause problems in the mountains. The local administration is also asking tourists to avoid traveling to Babusar Top until the situation improves and it is safe again.
The incident highlights how quickly weather can change in mountainous areas and why tourists need to be careful and prepared when visiting such spots. Rescue teams are working hard to find the missing and ensure everyone’s safety.
