CM Maryam launches Phase II of Green Tractor Programme for Punjab farmers

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Saturday formally launched Phase-II of the CM Punjab Green Tractor Program by announcing the results of a ballot for 9,500 high-power tractors across the province.

The event began with the computerized draw, where the first tractor was allotted to Raja Rafat Abbas, followed by Nuzhat Parveen and Mian Naseer. In a symbolic gesture, the Chief Minister personally called Muhammad Ashiq, a farmer from Kasur, congratulating him on his success in the ballot. “I have called you to congratulate you on your success in the draw to win a tractor,” she said during the phone call, highlighting her government’s commitment to supporting farmers.

During the ceremony, the Secretary Agriculture Punjab briefed the Chief Minister on the features of the program. He said that under Phase-II, farmers owning seven acres or more land would be eligible for tractors ranging between 75 to 125 horsepower.

The Punjab government has announced a subsidy of Rs. 1 million for high-power tractors and Rs. 500,000 for medium-power tractors (50 to 65 horsepower). In total, 20,000 tractors will be distributed on subsidy under this phase — 9,500 under the High-Power Tractor Scheme and 10,000 under the Medium-Power Tractor Scheme.

According to official data, the scheme has witnessed an overwhelming response, with 734,000 farmers applying under Phase-II of the Green Tractor Program. Out of these, 282,000 farmers were declared eligible, while 9,500 applicants emerged successful in the ballot.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said the initiative reflects her government’s vision to modernize agriculture in Punjab and ease the burden on small and medium-scale farmers. She added that the program would play a pivotal role in ensuring food security, enhancing productivity, and improving the rural economy.
