Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced a work-from-home policy for government offices across the province in response to the ongoing petroleum crisis and rising fuel prices. The move is intended to reduce unnecessary travel, conserve fuel, and lessen the pressure on energy resources during a time when the country is facing economic and fuel supply challenges.
Under the new directive, only essential staff will be required to attend offices physically, while the remaining employees will perform their duties remotely from home. Officials believe that reducing daily commuting for government workers will significantly cut fuel consumption and help manage the impact of the current situation.
Alongside the remote work policy, the provincial government has also introduced several austerity measures aimed at limiting fuel usage in official departments. The supply of official fuel for provincial ministers has been suspended, and petrol allowances for government officers have been reduced by 50 percent as part of a broader effort to curb government spending.
In addition, strict restrictions have been imposed on official convoys. Protocol vehicles that typically accompany ministers and senior officials have been banned, and only one escort vehicle will be allowed for security purposes when necessary. Authorities say these measures are designed to promote responsible use of public resources and demonstrate financial discipline during a period of economic strain.
