CM Punjab Reveals Over 5,000 Housing Societies in Punjab are Illegal or Awaiting Approval

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has shared a serious concern out of 7,905 housing societies across the province, 5,118 are either illegal or still waiting for approval.

In Lahore alone, 206 out of 707 housing schemes registered with the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) are not legal.

This was revealed during a high-level meeting where officials discussed possible solutions to the issue. One major proposal was to offer a one-time amnesty and create a proper system to regularize such housing schemes.

To make things easier, the government is also planning to launch a new online system. This system will simplify the approval process for housing projects and remove the need for unnecessary No Objection Certificates (NOCs). The aim is to make the process faster, clearer, and more transparent.

During the meeting, CM Maryam Nawaz strongly criticized both government departments and private developers for their negligence. She pointed out that many people have lost their life savings by investing in these unapproved or illegal societies. She emphasized that protecting the rights and money of citizens must be a top priority.

The government’s focus is now on taking strict action against those responsible and ensuring that housing societies operate under proper rules.

The new steps are expected to help both developers and homebuyers, while also preventing future fraud. This is a major step toward bringing transparency and accountability to Punjab’s real estate sector.
