The Ministry of Health and NADRA are working together on a new system called “One Patient One ID” to make healthcare better in Pakistan. This system will connect each person’s medical records with their CNIC number. That means doctors and hospitals across the country will be able to access a patient’s full medical history easily, no matter where they go.
Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal said that right now, there’s no proper record of patients’ health data in one place. Every hospital or clinic has its own record, which makes it hard to track medical history. By introducing a single Medical Record (MR) number linked to the CNIC, the government hopes to create a more organized and efficient healthcare system.
The plan also includes using telemedicine—healthcare provided through online services—so that people can get medical help from home, especially in remote or underserved areas. This could be a big help for people who don’t have access to nearby hospitals or clinics.
Minister Kamal explained that with Pakistan’s growing population, the demand for healthcare is also increasing. That’s why it’s important to use digital tools and modern technology in the health sector. A digital system like “One Patient One ID” will not only improve medical services but also help in planning and decision-making for the entire health system.
This initiative is a major step toward building a smarter and more connected healthcare system in Pakistan. It promises easier access to medical care, better tracking of health records, and more equal healthcare services for everyone—no matter where they live. By bringing technology and healthcare together, the government aims to make life healthier and easier for all Pakistanis.
