Coffee Culture in Pakistan: A Brewing Opportunity Being Held Back by Policy

Coffee is becoming more popular in Pakistan, especially among young people. Many now prefer coffee over traditional drinks because they see it as modern, stylish, and part of a global lifestyle. This growing interest in coffee is part of a worldwide trend. However, even though more people are drinking coffee, Pakistan still doesn’t have a proper system to produce or assemble coffee locally. There are no major coffee manufacturing or processing facilities in the country.

In contrast, tea has been a major part of daily life in Pakistan for a long time. It became popular during colonial times and is now deeply rooted in the culture. The government also gives tea a lot of support by offering tax breaks and other benefits that help companies with local tea packaging and blending. Unfortunately, coffee doesn’t get the same kind of support from policymakers. It is still seen as a less important product, even though its popularity is clearly growing.

This shows that there is a big opportunity for Pakistan to build its own coffee industry. With the right support and investment, the country could create jobs, reduce imports, and meet the growing demand for coffee through local production.
