Commencement of Global Awareness Campaign Against Drug Addiction

Pakistan and all SCO member states join the initiative.
Globally, there are 350 million individuals addicted to drugs, with one million people in Pakistan suffering from this affliction. Each year, the number of affected individuals in Pakistan increases by five hundred thousand.

The 26th of June is observed as the International Day against Drug Abuse, aimed at combating drug addiction and raising awareness among the youth about its harmful effects. Approximately 4 billion people, out of the world’s population of nearly 7 billion, fall within the age group of 15 to 64, among whom the addiction rate stands at 7%.

In Pakistan, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs of the Russian Federation are collaborating to initiate a global campaign against drug addiction. As part of this initiative, an awareness campaign regarding the harms of drug addiction is being organized from the 26th of June to the 9th of July. The campaign aims to involve youth from all over the country, encouraging them to post on their social media platforms, such as stories, videos, or written posts, highlighting the prevention of drug addiction and promoting a healthy lifestyle.

The objective of this campaign is to instill self-awareness among the youth regarding the perils of drug addiction. The best publications will be rewarded, and the Russian Federal Agency for Youth Affairs will extend its appreciation through letters of appreciation to the youth for their contributions.
