A few years ago separating conjoined twins especially those joined at the head seemed almost impossible. But today, medical science has proved that nothing is beyond human effort and care.
Eritrean twins Asma and Someya, who were born joined at the head have been successfully separated after a 15.5-hour surgery at King Abdullah Specialist Children’s Hospital in Riyadh.
This life-changing operation was led by Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah and supported by a dedicated team of 36 medical experts. It was the 64th successful separation performed under Saudi Arabia’s well-known Conjoined Twins Program.
The complex surgery used advanced technology like neuronavigation and surgical microscopes to make the procedure precise and safe. Earlier, doctors also expanded the twins’ skin to help with closing their heads after separation.
This major medical success was made possible with the full support of King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
It shows Saudi Arabia’s growing leadership in healthcare and its strong commitment to helping people from around the world. The successful operation has given Asma and Someya a new chance at life and brought hope to many families facing similar challenges.
