Construction Work on Lahore’s Five Mega Projects to Start by the End of April

Construction on five mega development projects worth over Rs20.5 billion is expected to start in the provincial capital by the end of next month, as arrangements for contractor certification, bidding, contract award, and fund transfer are currently underway.

Construction of a flyover at Sheranwala Gate, an underpass at Ghulab Devi Hospital, and additional lanes on the Lahore Bridge (Ferozepur Road), a flyover at Shahkam Chowk, construction of five underpasses on The Mall, and resolving traffic congestion at Barkat Market (Garden Town) Y-junction were among the projects proposed to be launched soon. However, due to a lack of funds in the current fiscal year, the intersection flyover and underpass project at Karim Market (Allama Iqbal Town) has been postponed for six months.

“These projects will be launched in the city, as the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has been tasked with completing them under a fast-track plan,” an official told on Saturday.

According to a survey, the decision to start the projects was based on studies on the number of vehicles going through, traffic congestion/clogs, and public problems.
