According to Beijing, the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has received $25.4 billion in direct investment since it started in 2014. This infrastructure project, part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative, has created 192,000 jobs, generated 6,000MW of power, built 510 km of highways, and expanded the national transmission network by 886 km.
The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, has recognized the crucial role of CPEC in transforming the country’s economy. China views CPEC as a way to contribute to national development and improve regional connectivity. They are prepared to further develop CPEC in collaboration with Pakistan.
