Ever imagined what it would be like to swim alongside a robot whale shark in the deep ocean?
A Shenyang-based company has turned this dream into reality by unveiling the world’s first “intelligent robotic whale shark”!
This 4.7-meter-long and 350-kilogram bionic marvel is packed with tech, including wireless remote control, sonar, and BeiDou positioning systems. It can dive up to 20 meters, monitor water quality, map underwater terrains, and much more. Imagine a robot that’s not only huge but also capable of performing critical tasks in the deep sea!
What makes it even more eye-opening is how it tackles challenges. With seven actuated joints and advanced sensor fusion, it’s like having a supercomputer that thinks like a whale shark, navigating the complex underwater world with precision.
“Currently, we have developed various types of robotic fish, with the robotic whale shark being the largest mechanical fish we have created so far,” the company stated. They added that these biomimetic machines serve three main purposes: performing in aquariums for entertainment, educating youngsters about the sea and aquatic animals, and conducting scientific tasks such as hydrological surveys, underwater photography, and environmental inspections.
