This project would strengthen links between the UAE and Oman, open up new cross-border economic opportunities, and provide a fast, efficient, and environmentally friendly method of moving people and products. Mubadala inked a contract to build the 303-kilometer rail line with Oman Rail and the Etihad Rail Company, investing $3 billion to build a rail network connecting the UAE to Oman. The project’s completion date, however, has not yet been disclosed.
Both freight and passenger trains would be served by the project, which was announced in September. Just 100 minutes will be needed to get from Abu Dhabi to Sohar, which is north of Muscat, and 47 minutes will be needed to travel from Sohar to Al Ain.
The transportation link will also link Sohar’s deep-water port to the UAE’s current goods services line. As part of the collaboration with Mubadala, working groups and joint committees will be formed to share knowledge and experience, conduct feasibility studies, and work together on network development.
The project will transform the logistics, infrastructure, and transportation industries. It will also connect economic, commercial, industrial, and residential centres through the railway network and foster social cohesion, according to Suhail Al Mazrouei, the UAE’s Minister of Energy and Infrastructure and the chairman of Oman and Etihad Rail Company.
