The Safe City Project has formally rolled out the electronic challan (e-challan) system in Sargodha to ensure effective traffic management and strengthen road safety measures. The system was officially launched on Monday and marks a significant step toward modernizing traffic enforcement in the city.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations, Amir Mushtaq, the initiative is designed to curb traffic violations through the use of advanced surveillance cameras and an automated monitoring mechanism. He explained that violations such as riding without a helmet, driving against the flow of traffic, carrying more than three persons on a motorcycle, or other unlawful road practices will now be automatically detected by Safe City cameras. Once identified, e-challans will be issued directly to the vehicle owners.
“The purpose of this project is to promote a responsible driving culture among citizens and reduce the number of road accidents in Sargodha,” the SSP said. He highlighted that the use of technology would make traffic enforcement more transparent, efficient, and consistent compared to manual checking.
Authorities believe that the newly introduced system will not only discourage reckless driving but also instill discipline among motorists. Officials further assured the public that the initiative is part of a broader plan under the Safe City Project to enhance urban safety, minimize human intervention in law enforcement, and create a secure road environment.
The introduction of e-challan technology in Sargodha follows its successful implementation in other cities and represents a key move toward digital policing in Pakistan
