On May 2, 2024, some parts of Karachi, including areas like Gadap Town, Katohar, and nearby places in Malir district, felt a small earthquake. It measured 2.3 on the Richter scale.
The center that monitors earthquakes said the quake happened 38 kilometers northeast of Malir. It was 84 kilometers deep underground. The shaking started at 5:52 pm local time.
Luckily, no one got hurt, and nothing got damaged. This is the second small earthquake in Malir district in just over a week. There was another one on April 24, which measured 3.2.
Pakistan often has earthquakes because it’s where the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates meet. The recent earthquakes remind us of the importance of being ready for disasters and trying to reduce their impact.
