According to the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), Eidul Azha is expected to be celebrated in Pakistan on Saturday, June 7, 2025. This expected date is based on scientific research and astronomical observations related to the Islamic calendar.
SUPARCO’s forecast is made by studying the position of the moon and other space-related data. Their calculations suggest that the moon for the Islamic month of Zilhaj 1446 AH is likely to be visible on May 28, which would make May 29 the first day of Zilhaj. Since Eidul Azha is celebrated every year on the 10th of Zilhaj, this would place the day of Eid on June 7.
However, it is important to note that the final and official announcement regarding the moon sighting will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee. This committee considers both scientific evidence and eyewitness reports from different parts of the country. They also take into account the weather and visibility conditions on the evening when the moon is expected to be seen.
Eidul Azha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is an important religious holiday for Muslims. It is observed to honor the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to Allah. This festival also marks the end of the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Makkah, which is one of the five pillars of Islam.
Muslims across Pakistan and around the world celebrate Eidul Azha by offering special prayers, sacrificing animals such as goats, cows, or camels, and distributing the meat among family, friends, and those in need.
While the date of Eidul Azha is likely to be June 7, the public is advised to wait for the official announcement by the moon sighting committee closer to the time.
