Emergency Declared! Vehicles Drowned in Flash Floods in Rawalpindi

Heavy rainfall in Islamabad and Rawalpindi has caused serious flooding in many low-lying areas, creating major problems for residents and commuters. Roads have turned into rivers, and traffic has come to a complete stop in several parts of the twin cities. Many cars and motorcycles were either submerged or stuck in the water, leaving people stranded and unable to reach their destinations.

The most rainfall recorded so far is 66mm in the Bokra area. Other affected locations include Blue Area, Bari Imam, Bhara Kahu, Zero Point, and Faizabad, where residents struggled to move around due to waterlogged streets and overflowing drains. The rainwater collected in streets, making it difficult for both vehicles and pedestrians to pass through.

According to the Managing Director of the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), more than 80mm of rain has already been recorded. However, the water level in Nullah Lai — a key drainage channel in Rawalpindi — is currently stable and not posing any threat. Authorities are keeping a close eye on the situation.

Rain is expected to continue off and on in the coming hours. Meanwhile, southern parts of Punjab, including districts like Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, and Sargodha, are also likely to receive rainfall in the next few days. People in these areas have been advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions to avoid any emergencies.
