The establishment of the South Punjab secretariat, Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Monday, is a sign of growth and prosperity for previously neglected areas.
The prime minister said at a ground breaking ceremony for the South Punjab Secretariat that the district had 33 percent of the population of Punjab province, but only 17 percent of the budget allocation had been made in the past.
He added that the re-allocation of these uplift funds resulted in around Rs260 billion losses in these areas as a result of the previous rulers’ policies.
According to the prime minister, they had also agreed that South Punjab would receive its fair share of work quotas based on its size and population. The secretariat will deal with all of the area’s problems.
“The establishment of the South Punjab secretariat is a historic event, a new beginning for the province of South Punjab, and a transition,” he said.
