The purple mango, also known as the Miyazaki mango, is one of the most well-known fruits grown in Miyazaki, Japan.

Last year, these mangoes were sold at over Rs 400,000 per kilogramme in the international market, making them one of the most expensive mangoes in the world.

These mangoes are known as ‘Taiyo-no-Tomago,’ or ‘Eggs of Sunshine,’ and are marketed as such. It is not yellow or green in colour, but when ripe, it turns a flaming red from purple, and the shape resembles dinosaur eggs. According to accounts, these mangoes weigh above 350 grammes and have a sugar level of 15% or greater.

In the year 1984, these mangoes were being grown in Miyazaki. Only from April through August is it available. Mangoes provide a lot of health benefits in addition to having the most diverse flavour. It’s no surprise that this fruit is known as the “King of Fruits.”

In Japan, this uncommon fruit is the most expensive fruit available. For a carton of two mangoes, prices range from above Rs 15000 to Rs 400,000. Mangoes are grown in Thailand, the Philippines, and India as well.

This sort of mango is high in antioxidants and contains beta-carotene and folic acid, as well as decreasing cancer risk.The fruit is beneficial to the eyes and skin, as well as decreasing cholesterol levels.
