Express Metro Bus Service in Islamabad/Rawalpindi Shuts Down Permanently

The express metro bus service, which was inaugurated by the Punjab Masstransit Authority (PMA) last year, has been discontinued due to financial constraints and a shortage of available vehicles.

Originally designed with only seven stops between Rawalpindi and Islamabad, the express service has now been supplanted by a regular bus service featuring an expanded network with 24 stops.

Uzair Shah, the General Manager Operations at PMA, explained that despite the initial favorable response to the express service, it proved to be financially unsustainable in the long run.

Concurrently, there are upcoming plans for the repair and maintenance of the elevated metro track from Saddar to Faizabad, with funds allocated by the Punjab government to enhance and upgrade the region’s transportation infrastructure.
