Faisalabad has been hit by record-breaking rainfall, the heaviest in 30 years, as showers continued for the second day in a row. Reports show 184mm of rain was recorded in Ghulam Muhammadabad, while Allama Iqbal Colony received 175mm and Gulistan Colony 170mm.
The continuous downpour created serious problems for residents across the city.
Deputy Commissioner (retd) Capt Nadeem Nasir along with WASA Managing Director Sohail Qadir Cheema visited different areas to review the drainage situation. Heavy machinery was placed at key points to pump out water and improve flow.
Despite these efforts, many low-lying areas remained underwater, forcing families to move to rooftops or other safe locations.
Streets turned into streams, making it difficult for people to travel, and daily life came to a standstill. Citizens raised concerns about the slow pace of drainage but also noted the active presence of officials on the ground.
Meanwhile, lightning struck the old Deputy Commissioner’s Office, damaging the microwave tower installed on its rooftop. This added to the difficulties, with authorities now working to restore the equipment and ensure safety.
Officials assured the public that every effort is being made to clear the water and reduce the impact of the flooding. People have been advised to stay indoors unless necessary to avoid risks.
While the rainfall brought some relief from hot weather, it also exposed weak drainage and infrastructure systems in the city. Relief teams are continuing operations to bring back normal life in Faisalabad.
