Families of Air Accident Victims to Receive up to Rs 6 Crore Under New Law

The National Assembly’s Defence Sub-Committee has approved the Carriage by Air (Amendment) Bill 2025, introducing updated compensation rules for passengers affected by air acc!dents.

Under the new bill, the families of passengers who lose their lives in international flights will now receive Rs 6 crore. For domestic flights, the compensation has been set at Rs 2 crore. These changes aim to provide stronger financial support to families during difficult times.

The bill also increases protection for passengers’ belongings. Airlines will be required to pay Rs 600,000 for lost baggage. For lost or damaged cargo, passengers will receive Rs 5,000 for every kilogram. This ensures that travellers are compensated fairly for their losses.

In addition, the legislation includes guidelines related to the claims of PIA flight victims, covering areas such as life insurance, personal belongings, and other property. The main purpose of the bill is to make the claim process faster, more transparent, and more helpful for families dealing with emergencies.

The government advises citizens to rely on official airline and government sources for accurate details about these compensations and procedures.
