According to prominent leader of Pakistan Tehkreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Fawad Chaudhry, Bushra Bibi, the wife of former prime minister Imran Khan, has decided to file a criminal complaint for defamation against Maryam Nawaz, senior vice president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
At a press conference in Islamabad, the senior vice president of the PTI claimed that Maryam, the leader of the opposition party, had accused Bushra Bibi of accepting bribes to have official documents signed by the government when the PTI previously held power. He noted that she had never engaged in political activity and had only ever been observed visiting panahgahs (shelter homes). Fawad claimed that even though the former first lady is an apolitical individual, Maryam has persisted in making accusations against her.
Bushra Bibi has chosen to send Maryam Nawaz a legal notice for making unfounded accusations as a result, he added, adding that the notice will be followed by the filing of a criminal complaint against the PML-N leader. The former first lady has repeatedly been accused of accepting payments, including a diamond set, in exchange for utilizing her power during the duration of the Imran Khan-led government by Maryam, who also serves as the PML-N’s main organizer.
The PML-N leader claimed that Bushra Bibi’s close friend Farhat Shezadi continued to play a significant role in managing the day-to-day operations of the Punjab administration led by Usman Buzdar and would also accept bribes for official transfers and postings of the officials. The PTI chairman also called Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikander Sultan Raja a “crony” of the ruling coalition during the same press conference.
He asserted that although they claim there is no money for elections, they have paid 320 million for four kanals of land in Sargodha to house the electoral commission. Senator Ejaz Chaudhary, according to Fawad, filed a reference against the CEC, but nothing happened. “Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is sending a new reference against the chief election commissioner,” he continued. The PTI leader alleged that the CEC was complicit in a plot to deny people their right to vote and called for his dismissal.
