The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced plans to auction 527 kanals of land owned by Bahria Town in Tehsil Murree on March 5, 2026. The step is being taken to recover Rs26 billion in outstanding income taxes for the years 2020 and 2022.
The auction will be held at the Large Taxpayers Office in Islamabad. It was previously scheduled for February 16 but was later postponed due to administrative reasons. Officials have now confirmed the new date and stated that the process will move forward in accordance with legal procedures.
This action follows a landmark decision by the Supreme Court of Pakistan, which banned the use of the Percentage of Completion method by property developers. The ruling significantly changed the way developers calculate and report taxable income, leading to stricter enforcement by tax authorities.
The planned auction is part of efforts to ensure tax compliance and recover unpaid dues. Authorities have clarified that the measure is purely administrative and financial in nature. There have been no reports of casualties or any physical damage linked to this action.
