The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA)’s Cyber Crime Wing has revealed that the cyber crime had increased by almost five times in 2020 during the pandemic of coronavirus as compared to the past years.
As per the report of the Cyber Crime Wing, in 2020, around 94,227 complaints regarding cyber crime that includes sexual harassment, stalking, scams, and access to the unauthorized accounts was received.
In Pakistan, Faisalabad is on the top in the list of cybercrime-related arrests that are with the apprehension of the 90 cyber crime offenders, and followed by Multan with around 83 imprisonments.
According to Shoaib Haroon, the Cyber Crime Wing Assistant Director, the six cases related to child pornography were also reported in Faisalabad in the last year, out of which around six suspects got arrested in the three cases. Assistant Director also unveiled that the arrested suspects were also involved in like spreading child pornography through the WhatsApp.
He also added that the Faisalabad Cyber Crime Wing had taken actions and registered around 88 cases and as they also investigated for 90 suspects that were involved.
Moreover he remarked, the apprehended suspects in cybercrime were involved in online fraud, social media harassment, as well as in the character assassination of the women. This is why the Cyber Crime Wing has also established a complaint management unit at their each reporting center to cater these issues and it has also processed around total of 100,000 complaints in the year.
