The Pakistani-American community in New York gave a warm and heartfelt welcome to Zehran Mamdani, who has been elected as the new Mayor of New York City.
A special reception was arranged by Dr. Ejaz Ahmed, Chairman of APPAC, where many community members came together to celebrate Mamdani’s remarkable accomplishment. This moment is especially meaningful because he is set to become the first Muslim and the first South Asian to lead a city as large and diverse as New York, which is home to almost 8 million people.
During his speech, Mamdani expressed deep gratitude to the community. He said their early encouragement helped motivate him throughout his campaign and played an important role in his success. He also spoke about his personal journey—from serving as a State Assembly member to now preparing to take on the role of mayor—and acknowledged how much the strong support of the Pakistani-American community has meant to him.
