Flood Warning Issued as Heavy Rainfall Expected in Islamabad and Punjab

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has warned of heavy rainfall in Islamabad and several districts of Punjab between September 1 and 3. According to the advisory, the downpour may cause urban flooding in cities and increase water levels in rivers and streams.

Districts expected to be affected include Murree, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Sialkot, Faisalabad, and nearby areas. Authorities are especially concerned about rising water levels at Head Marala, which could add to the flood situation.

Residents living in low-lying and flood-prone areas have been asked to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel, especially on flooded roads. NDMA and local rescue teams are on high alert to deal with any emergency, ensuring that evacuation and relief measures can be carried out swiftly if needed.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has reported alarming figures. More than two million people have already been affected by the floods across Punjab.

Over 33 people have lost their lives, while around 750,000 individuals have been evacuated to safer locations. Relief camps have been set up in different districts to provide shelter and food to displaced families.

Officials are continuously monitoring the situation and coordinating with district administrations. Citizens are advised to follow weather updates, cooperate with rescue authorities, and prepare emergency kits in case of sudden evacuations.

Meanwhile, concerns are being raised regarding India’s role under the Indus Waters Treaty. Authorities in Pakistan have expressed disappointment over the lack of timely flood-related information sharing, which could have helped in better preparation and reduced losses. The government has urged people to prioritize safety and follow all precautionary instructions.
