Former CM of Sindh Aftab Shaban Mirani Passed Away

Former Sindh Chief Minister Aftab Shaban Mirani passed away in Karachi after a long illness, his family confirmed on Saturday. He was a senior leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and a close associate of former prime ministers Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto.

Aftab Shaban Mirani served as the Chief Minister of Sindh in 1990 and later as the Federal Minister for Defence from 1993 to 1996 during Benazir Bhutto’s government.

Throughout his political career, he was known for his integrity, dedication, and long-standing loyalty to the PPP. His contributions to provincial and national politics earned him respect across party lines.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah expressed deep grief over his passing. They paid tribute to Mirani’s services for democracy, describing him as a sincere, hardworking leader who always stood by the party during difficult times. Both leaders said that his death was a great loss not only for the PPP but also for the political community of Pakistan.

Funeral prayers for Aftab Shaban Mirani were offered at Masjid Bait-ul-Islam in Defence Phase-IV, Karachi. He was later laid to rest at Gizri Graveyard, where family members, party workers, and friends gathered to pay their final respects.

Mirani’s political journey spanned decades, during which he remained deeply committed to public service and the welfare of Sindh’s people. His legacy will be remembered as that of a principled politician who believed in democracy, loyalty, and service to the nation.
