Major Drop in Petrol Prices Expected in Pakistan from 16th October

Pakistan may soon see some relief at fuel stations, as petrol and diesel prices are expected to drop from October 16. Officials familiar with the matter said that the price adjustment is being considered after recent changes in the international oil market.

According to the initial estimates, petrol prices might decrease by around Rs. 6.10 per litre, while high-speed diesel could see a smaller cut of nearly Rs. 0.97 per litre. Kerosene oil and light diesel are also expected to become slightly cheaper, with possible reductions of Rs. 2.75 and Rs. 1.64 per litre respectively.

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has reportedly completed its preliminary calculations and will present a detailed summary to the Petroleum Division.

Once reviewed, the Petroleum Division and the Ministry of Finance will forward their recommendations to the Prime Minister for final approval. After the decision, the revised prices will officially take effect from October 16.

This expected reduction follows a recent increase earlier this month, when the government raised petrol prices by Rs. 4.07 per litre and high-speed diesel by Rs. 4.04 per litre. That adjustment had drawn criticism from the public already struggling with inflation and high transportation costs.

Meanwhile, consumers have already benefited from a cut in the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for October. The price of a domestic cylinder has been reduced by Rs. 79.14, bringing it down from Rs. 2,527 to Rs. 2,448.

If approved, the upcoming fuel price revision could provide some short-term financial relief to citizens and businesses, particularly those dependent on transport and logistics. However, officials say future changes will continue to depend on global oil price trends and exchange rate movements.
