Game Changer for Islamabad! 5KM Margalla Road-Motorway Link Finally Ready for Construction

Authorities have decided that construction on a new five-kilometer highway connecting Islamabad to the M-1 Motorway through Margalla Road will officially begin within the next month.

This project aims to ease traffic, shorten travel time, and create a smoother link between the capital and the motorway network.

According to the plan, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) will work on the first 2.7 kilometers of the road. The remaining 2.3 kilometers will be completed by the National Highway Authority (NHA).

The project is being funded under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP), and the government has already set aside Rs6 billion for it.

A review meeting was held to discuss progress, with CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa presiding. In the meeting, officials reported that both parts of the project CDA’s section and NHA’s section have received approval for their PC-1 documents, which means all technical and financial details are officially cleared. This is a major step toward starting construction.

Officials also confirmed that the tendering process, which involves hiring contractors and completing all required paperwork, will be finished within a week. Once this process is done, work on the ground will begin without delay.

This new link road is expected to provide significant relief for daily commuters, especially those traveling from different parts of Islamabad toward the motorway. It will also help reduce pressure on existing roads and improve overall traffic flow in the city.

With funding approved, technical plans cleared, and tendering about to be finalized, the project is now moving quickly toward its construction phase, bringing Islamabad one step closer to better connectivity and improved infrastructure.
