On Friday, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, shared his vision for turning Gwadar Port into a major economic hub. He stated that with the right mix of long-term investment, smart policies, and better infrastructure, the port has the potential to generate more than $850 million every year. This would mainly come from exporting value-added products like fish and dates.
The minister made these remarks while leading a high-level meeting focused on making Gwadar Port fully operational. The meeting was attended by officials from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, as well as representatives from important sectors such as the Gwadar Port Authority, Commerce, Industries, and Communication.
He explained that by improving the port’s infrastructure and supporting local industries, Gwadar can become a key driver of economic growth. The focus will be on building facilities that help process and export seafood and dates, which are two of the region’s most promising sectors. These efforts are part of a larger strategy to create jobs, boost trade, and develop the blue economy in Pakistan.
