Good News! PMDC Announces Easing of Rules for Medical Students

PMDC has announced a major relief for medical and dental students by easing its academic rules for exams and attendance.

According to the new notification, students will now need 50% marks to pass their exams, and 75% attendance will be mandatory to sit for examinations. These rules restore the previous criteria that were changed earlier this year when PMDC had raised the passing marks to 65% and attendance to 85%.

The earlier decision faced strong criticism from students and universities, who argued that the new standards were too strict and added unnecessary pressure.

After reviewing feedback from academic institutions and student bodies, PMDC decided to reverse its decision to make the system more balanced and student-friendly.

The revised policy will be effective from the 2024–2025 academic session, and all medical and dental colleges have been instructed to immediately follow the updated rules.

Officials from PMDC said the move aims to maintain educational standards while ensuring that students can manage their academic workload more effectively.

The Council also hinted that in the future, a small 5% increase in both attendance and passing marks could be considered after proper consultation with universities and other stakeholders.

Students across Pakistan have welcomed the decision, calling it a fair and timely step that brings relief and restores a sense of balance in the demanding medical education system.
