OpenAI has introduced a new feature inside ChatGPT that works like an app store, allowing developers to create and publish applications directly on the platform.
This feature is currently available in beta form, meaning it is still being tested and improved. With this launch, developers can now build interactive tools and experiences that users will be able to access while chatting with ChatGPT.
To support developers, OpenAI has released a new Apps Software Development Kit, also known as the Apps SDK. This kit provides instructions, resources, and ready-made tools to make app development easier.
Developers can use it to design their apps, submit them for review, and check the status of their applications as they move through the approval process.
All submissions will be handled through the OpenAI Developer platform. Once approved, apps will appear inside ChatGPT, making them available to millions of users. An app directory has also been added to the ChatGPT tools menu, helping users explore and test new apps directly from within the interface.
This announcement follows earlier plans shared by OpenAI about supporting third-party plugins and apps. Several well-known platforms such as Expedia, Spotify, Zillow, and Canva have already begun integrating their services with ChatGPT.
These partnerships show how the new app system can expand ChatGPT’s usefulness across different fields like travel planning, music streaming, home searching, and graphic design.
OpenAI says the new app store is an important step toward increasing innovation on ChatGPT. By inviting external developers to participate, the company hopes to unlock new ideas, improve user experience, and build a stronger global developer community in the coming year.
