Google has revealed its plan to introduce a blue checkmark alongside the names of certain senders on Gmail in order to verify their identity.
In a recent blog post, the company highlighted that they had previously introduced Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI) in Gmail, which mandates senders to utilize strong authentication and confirm their brand logo for it to be displayed as an avatar in emails.
This development coincides with the attention blue checkmarks have garnered, primarily due to Twitter’s legacy accounts. However, Google’s implementation of blue checkmarks in Gmail serves a different purpose.
The new feature will only be displayed next to companies that have adopted Gmail’s existing BIMI feature. Google emphasizes that this update will assist users in differentiating messages from genuine senders and potential impersonators. By employing robust email authentication, Google aims to empower users and email security systems to identify and prevent spam effectively.
Additionally, this authentication process enables senders to enhance their brand trust and provides readers with an immersive experience, contributing to an improved email ecosystem overall.
