Google has recently announced a major breakthrough in quantum computers, claiming to have achieved something called “quantum supremacy.” They say their quantum computer can solve incredibly complex problems in just seconds, while it would take the fastest supercomputers made by their competitors about 47 years to do the same.
Experts believe that quantum computers will eventually replace traditional computers in our everyday lives and bring about a revolution in the coming decades. By utilizing the unique properties of quantum physics, these advanced machines are expected to speed up machine learning, address climate change, and aid in the discovery of new drugs.
This isn’t the first time Google has made such a claim. Back in 2019, they also claimed quantum supremacy, but some people doubted the accuracy of their statement. IBM, one of their competitors, argued that the task Google’s Sycamore quantum computer accomplished wasn’t particularly difficult and could theoretically be done by a classical computer, although it would take much longer.
