In the Federal Budget 2025–26, the government of Pakistan has allocated Rs. 39.5 billion for development projects under HEC. This funding aims to improve the quality of higher education across the country.
The budget will support national and provincial universities, research programs, scholarships, and infrastructure development. According to officials, this allocation shows the government’s focus on investing in the youth by strengthening education and innovation.
The HEC will use the funds to continue ongoing projects and launch new ones. These include improving university facilities, upgrading laboratories, enhancing faculty training, and supporting advanced research. Special focus will be given to universities in underdeveloped areas to ensure equal learning opportunities for all.
In recent years, the education sector has faced several financial hurdles. Experts and educationists have repeatedly called for increased funding to meet growing academic needs. This step is being seen as a much-needed boost for the sector.
Students and teachers across the country have welcomed the announcement. Many hope the funds will be used efficiently and transparently. As Pakistan looks to strengthen its economy, investment in higher education is expected to play a vital role in long-term national progress.
