The federal government is considering levying a dual toll on freeways used by lone drivers to mitigate the energy crisis and the impact of rising fuel prices.
A plan is also being considered whereby vehicles based on odd and even number plates could circulate on alternate days on the roads.
The Cabinet, at a recent meeting, decided that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif would form a committee to discuss these energy-saving proposals.
Under the proposed plan, provincial governments must issue a notice of mandatory semi-annual overhaul and inspection of motor vehicles.
It was also suggested that provincial agriculture departments develop programs and provide training for technical personnel in the field engineering wing to help farmers hire tractors.
Another suggestion was to make Sunday a car-free day in big cities and adopt daylight saving time by putting the clock forward.
The Committee will also examine other proposals, such as lowering the speed limit on motorways/expressways and doubling the motorway toll for single-driver cars.
The Energy Department informed the Cabinet that the PM had called a meeting for June 4 to discuss the current energy crisis and possible measures to alleviate the shortage.
The Secretary of State put forward several proposals.
The PM had previously set up a working group consisting of the finance minister, the energy minister, the state minister for oil and the minister for media and broadcasting.
The working group was responsible for taking into account more energy-saving measures and confirming final proposals.
