Punjab is set to bring advanced heart care closer to home as Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif moves forward with a new plan to set up cardiac catheterisation labs in 16 districts.
This effort aims to help heart patients get timely and reliable treatment without needing to travel far for essential procedures like angioplasty.
According to officials, districts chosen for this project include Attock, Jhelum, Mianwali, Kasur, Jhang, Vehari, Bahawalnagar, Layyah, Toba Tek Singh, Sheikhupura, Khanewal, Rajanpur, Bhakkar, Chakwal, Mandi Bahauddin, and Hafizabad.
The provincial health department has already started posting specialist doctors and trained staff in these areas.
Only well-qualified cardiologists those with FCPS, MD, or American Board certifications will be hired. They will work alongside skilled nurses, imaging technologists, and other catheter lab experts to make sure patients get the best possible care locally.
Maryam Nawaz stressed that this project is part of her larger mission to boost healthcare services across Punjab. By setting up modern heart treatment labs within districts, the government hopes to reduce the burden on hospitals in major cities and make life easier for patients and their families.
Officials say the recruitment process for doctors, nurses, and technical staff is already underway. The goal is to complete the labs in phases so that people can start benefiting as soon as possible.
This new step is expected to improve the standard of cardiac care in Punjab and support thousands of patients every year who otherwise struggle with travel and treatment delays.
