The federal government of Pakistan is planning to introduce a fuel quota system to provide subsidised fuel for motorcycles and rickshaws. Under this system, vehicle owners will register their vehicles on a digital platform, and fuel stations will verify quotas before dispensing fuel at subsidised rates. The initiative aims to support lower‑income commuters who rely on two‑ and three‑wheelers for daily transportation and work.
Officials involved in the plan say it is being finalised after coordination between the Petroleum Division, Finance, and Information Technology ministries. The system is designed to ensure targeted subsidy delivery and curb excessive fuel consumption, with the possibility of later expanding the program to include other small vehicles based on feedback from the initial rollout.
