The Punjab government has launched Pakistan’s first-ever e-Taxi program as part of Maryam Nawaz’s Vision 2030. The scheme introduces 1,100 electric taxis across the province, with 30% of the vehicles reserved specifically for women drivers.
The initiative is designed to promote environmentally friendly transportation by reducing air pollution in cities and encouraging sustainable commuting. By replacing traditional fuel-based taxis with electric vehicles, the government aims to modernize urban mobility while supporting clean energy goals.
In addition to environmental benefits, the e-Taxi program focuses on social and economic development. It provides employment opportunities for young people, empowers women by enabling them to work as professional drivers, and encourages entrepreneurship in the transport sector.
Officials say the program will give individuals the chance to run their own taxis and earn a stable income, helping to boost local economic activity.
The government also believes that the e-Taxi initiative will modernize Punjab’s public transportation system, making it more efficient, safe, and reliable for passengers.
