Guinness Book of Records Holds the Record for being the Book Most Often Stolen from Public Libraries

Launched by twin brothers Norris and Ross McWhirter in 1954, The Guinness Book of World Records has the distinction of being the most frequently pilfered book from public libraries, a curious detail attributed to Sam Harrod of Eureka.

Surprisingly, as revealed by the library staff member in Bloomington, the Bible also ranks high on the list of frequently disappearing books.

Norris and Ross McWhirter went to the same college and were outstanding track athletes. They served in the Royal Naval in World War II as well.

To date, more than 100 million copies of the 400 editions of the Guinness Book of Records have been sold. The book is present in around 40 languages, making it the all-time best-selling copyright book in the World.
