According to Sajid Hussain, project director of the M-14 motorway, the Hakla-Dera Ismail Khan Highway (M-14), an essential part of CPEC’s western alignment, will open to traffic on December 13,
The NHA board’s member motorways informed the authority’s chairman that the motorway was complete in all respects and might be launched as early as December, as per sources.
Construction of service areas was also proceeding, he said. However, he stated that the majority of the job has been completed.
The M-14 motorway is the beginning of the CPEC’s western corridor. It connects the provinces of South KP, South Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan to the M-1 motorway, intersecting the CPEC’s eastern alignment at Hakla near Islamabad.
The provinces of KP and Balochistan are now purchasing land for the next section of M-14, which will run from Dera Ismail Khan to Balochistan’s Zhob area.
On the other hand, the federal government has already begun construction on converting the existing two-lane highway between Dera Ismail Khan and Quetta, Balochistan’s capital, into a four-lane expressway.
The distance and travel time between the northern and southern sections of the country will be considerably reduced as a result of this. The corridor will eventually connect Karachi and Gwadar, making it the quickest CPEC route.
The M-14 motorway has been the most eagerly anticipated CPEC portion in Islamabad, as the expat employees who will benefit from it make up the majority of the city’s population. Traveling to Islamabad from the southern portions of the country on present motorways is quite risky.
