HBL was the First Commercial Bank Established in Pakistan in 1947

HBL, on its progressive journey, experienced growth and expansion. The bank’s first international branch opened in Colombo, Sri Lanka, in 1951, and the iconic HBL Plaza building started operations on September 4, 1971.

After a period of nationalization in 1974, HBL played a leading role in the banking industry, particularly in foreign remittances and loans to small industries, traders, and farmers.

In 2004, the bank was privatized, with management control transferred to AKFED. By April 2015, the Government of Pakistan divested its entire shareholding, making HBL the country’s largest private bank.

HBL has been a pioneer, contributing to initiatives such as bringing back international cricket through HBLPSL and supporting the economy with programs like the Ehsaas Emergency Cash Program.
