Pakistan is set to welcome Elon Musk’s Starlink, a satellite-based internet service that could transform the country’s digital landscape. After receiving temporary approval from regulatory authorities, Starlink is expected to introduce high-speed internet solutions across the nation.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has granted Starlink a No Objection Certificate (NOC), allowing the service to operate on a limited scale. This step comes after a series of consultations with security and IT regulators. Once Starlink fulfills the licensing and fee requirements, it is likely to secure full approval.
Proposed Starlink Packages in Pakistan
While the company has yet to make an official announcement, reports suggest that Starlink may offer three distinct internet packages to cater to different user needs: Residential, Business, and Premium.
- Residential Package: Priced at around Rs 35,000 per month, this plan is designed for individual users and households. It is expected to offer speeds between 50 to 250 Mbps. Users may need to pay an installation fee of approximately Rs 100,000 to Rs 125,000.
- Business Package: Targeting small to medium enterprises, this plan could cost around Rs 95,000 per month. It is expected to provide internet speeds above 300 Mbps. Due to the need for advanced infrastructure, the installation fee may range from Rs 200,000 to Rs 225,000.
- Premium Package: Aimed at large enterprises and high-demand users, the Premium package may exceed Rs 50,000 per month. It could offer speeds above 500 Mbps. The installation fee for this plan is speculated to be around Rs 200,000.
While these prices are speculative, the entry of Starlink in Pakistan marks a significant milestone for the country’s internet sector. Offering a potential solution to connectivity issues in remote and underserved regions, Starlink’s satellite network could provide reliable, high-speed internet to areas with limited access to broadband services.
The PTA will continue monitoring Starlink’s operations to ensure compliance with local regulations. Further updates on official pricing and launch details are expected once the company secures its full license.
If implemented as planned, Starlink could become a game-changer for businesses and individuals seeking faster and more reliable internet services in Pakistan.
