Here’s All That You Need to Know about KE’s Fantastic KHI Awards

In recognition of  Karachi’s untiring and innovative organizations who make sure the city stays up and running , Pakistan’s largest private electric supply company, K-Electric (KE) has recognized 34 entities who work with the metropolis’ well-being in minds. At the inaugural event of the KE KHI Awards, held on Saturday, 3rd April, 2021, the efforts of these organizations was acknowledged across 13 different categories.

The winners were recognized for their work in areas such as Education, Public Health, Uplifting Communities, Inclusion, Livelihoods & Vocational Training, Heritage & Culture, Digital Accessibility & Financial Inclusion, Sports and Women Empowerment.

After getting around 140 entries, K-Electric shortlisted 73 of the most promising and outstanding performers through a process of strict due diligence. Entries were assessed for a variety of things such as the impact of their projects as well as their adherence to committed timelines. Additional vetting was done by EY Ford Rhodes Chartered Accountants, a member firm of Ernst & Young Global Limited, and the jury then picked 34 winners.

Chaired by Saad Amanullah Khan, founder of #IAMKARACHI, the jury independently evaluated all applications submitted to the KHI Awards. Winners were chosen based on key metrics pertaining to performance, their contribution to society and/or proposed plans for the benefit of society in Karachi and adjoining areas.

Speaking about the KHI Awards and the participating organizations, Mr. Khan shared: “We had an overwhelming number of entries to choose from for our first edition. The winners have been instrumental in making a tremendous impact on the city, and their total asset base stands at over PKR 54 billion, which is the welfare investment these organizations are making to drive progress in Pakistan and its largest metropolitan city. KE’s decision to honor these organizations and empower them on their journey is commendable.”

The winners were not just given due recognition for their efforts but also given a monetary incentive in the form of a rebate in their electricity bills ranging from PKR 250,000 to 5 Million. These winners include major organizations, as well as those who have been constant innovators and supporters of empowerment in different capacities. Additionally, each of these organisations was also selected due to their commitment to bring their projects to completion.

Commenting on the Awards via a video message, Governor Sindh Imran Ismail said, “The participants and winners of these awards are an integral part of the state, as they support the government in its efforts to help the people of the city across a number of different fields including education, public health, and sustainability. I appreciate KE’s step to recognize the efforts of these NGOs and I am sure that it will be a catalyst towards bigger plans. The process was conducted with utmost transparency and impartiality, and all organizations were evaluated on their performance alone.”

Speaking on the occasion, CEO K-Electric Moonis Alvi said “KE is excited to bring the inaugural edition of the KHI Awards. Our relationship with the city extends over 107 years, and we are embedded in the fabric of Karachi. It is heartening to see so many competent and passionate organizations working at the forefront to uplift the city. These awards are KE’s humble effort to acknowledge their dedication and are proud to extend our support in their ongoing efforts.
