Car buyers in Pakistan may soon face a higher price tag on one of the country’s most popular entry-level vehicles the Suzuki Alto. Following new tax adjustments announced in the federal budget, the prices of small cars especially those under 850cc are expected to go up significantly.
The government has increased the GST on smaller cars from 12.5% to 18%. In addition to that, a new 1% Climate Support Levy (CSL) has been introduced. While it might seem small, this new levy is applied after all other taxes and duties, which adds to the total cost.
As a result of these changes, the Suzuki Alto, a favorite among middle-class families is expected to see a price hike ranging from around Rs. 167,000 to Rs. 186,000, depending on the model.
Here’s a breakdown of the possible new prices:
- Alto VXR: From Rs. 2,827,000 to Rs. 2,994,861
- Alto VXR AGS: From Rs. 2,989,000 to Rs. 3,166,480
- Alto VXL AGS: From Rs. 3,140,000 to Rs. 3,326,446
The Suzuki Alto known for its affordability and fuel efficiency has been a top choice for daily commuting. But with rising fuel prices and now higher taxes, buyers are finding it harder to keep up.
Whether Suzuki Pakistan will absorb some of the costs or shift the full burden to customers remains to be seen. For now, many potential buyers may need to rethink their plans or stretch their budgets further.
