US President Donald Trump has repeatedly spoken positively about Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Force, Field Marshal Asim Munir, describing him as a “highly respected general” and even calling him his “favourite field marshal” on several occasions.
While speaking at Mar-a-Lago, Trump claimed that his administration played an important role in preventing a possible nuclear conflict between Pakistan and India. He referred to the tensions in May, during which several aircraft were reportedly shot down, saying the situation could have escalated into a major war if timely intervention had not taken place.
Trump praised Field Marshal Asim Munir for his leadership and decision-making during the crisis. He also acknowledged the role of Pakistan’s prime minister, saying that both leaders acted responsibly and helped prevent a conflict that could have put millions of lives at risk. According to Trump, their actions contributed to maintaining peace and stability in the region at a very critical moment.
These remarks are part of a series of positive statements Trump has made about Asim Munir since their meeting in Washington in June. In earlier comments, Trump referred to Munir as a “great fighter” and credited him with playing a constructive role in promoting regional peace and avoiding further escalation between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
