Modern cameras installed along a 200-kilometer stretch of the Sukkur Multan Motorway M-5 in Sindh have reportedly been stolen.
The missing equipment includes surveillance cameras, speed cameras, solar panels, lights, and even poles. The theft took place on the section of the motorway between Sukkur and Rahim Yar Khan.
This incident has raised serious concerns about security and management on one of the country’s major motorway projects.
The M-5 motorway is an important route that connects different regions and plays a key role in transportation and trade. Losing such equipment not only affects monitoring systems but also raises questions about how such a large theft could happen.
Officials and observers believe that the situation points to major gaps in supervision and protection of public infrastructure.
The stolen items were part of a modern system designed to improve road safety, monitor traffic, and ensure smooth travel for commuters. Without these systems, the risk of accidents and violations may increase.
The incident has also highlighted concerns about the performance of government institutions responsible for maintaining and securing the motorway. Critics say that better planning, monitoring, and accountability are needed to prevent such incidents in the future.
Authorities are expected to investigate the matter and identify those responsible for the theft. There are also calls to improve security measures along the motorway to protect public assets.
