“I Can’t Sleep at Night if People Are Not Getting Basic Necessities”, CM Maryam

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz recently expressed deep concern for citizens struggling without necessities, stating that their hardships keep her awake at night.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Gujranwala Mass Transit Corridor, she emphasized that serving the people is not just a duty but a personal responsibility that weighs heavily on her conscience.

The Chief Minister, who became Pakistan’s first female provincial leader in February 2024, has made public welfare the centerpiece of her governance approach. She stated that the government’s main priorities include public health, sanitation, infrastructure, and ensuring affordable access to food and vegetables for every resident of Punjab.

Her commitment extends beyond words. Under her leadership, Punjab has launched multiple welfare programs targeting the province’s most vulnerable populations.

She emphasized that no responsibility is greater than serving the people, adding that her care extends to every child and adult in Punjab.

The Gujranwala Mass Transit Project, where she made these remarks, represents a significant investment in public transportation.

The Rs62.7 billion Yellow Line Corridor will span 31 kilometers and serve an estimated 51,000 daily passengers, primarily benefiting students, workers, and low-income families who depend on affordable public transport.

Beyond transportation, Maryam Nawaz has initiated several social welfare schemes. The Apni Chat Apna Ghar housing program aims to build 100,000 affordable homes with interest-free loans and easy installments.

The Dhi Rani Program provides Rs100,000 along with furniture and household items to underprivileged couples getting married. Special attention has been given to children with disabilities through the Himmat Card initiative and Centers of Excellence established in 28 districts.

Her administration has also introduced electric bus services across Punjab cities, launched school meal programs for 45,000 special education students, distributed Kisan Cards to 750,000 farmers, and provided 80,000 scholarships and 100,000 laptops to students.

Her governance philosophy reflects a compassionate approach focused on addressing the everyday struggles of ordinary Pakistanis, particularly those facing economic hardship and lacking access to essential services.
